5.0 out of 5 starsMy thoughts on Beguiled

By Fabulous Jen on June 27, 2013

Format: Kindle Edition

My first thought to share – AMAZING!

Is it possible to enjoy a 2nd more than the 1st? Yep, yep it is! This one like Gate Deadlock was hard to put down. I really enjoyed reading. So much suspense, keeps you on the edge of your seat.

This is written in a way it made me feel like I was right there with Emma. I love it when books are like that. I love how Emma grows throughout this series into such a strong woman, who stands up for herself and those she loves. I loved how she refused to give up on Christopher. I started to get a little worried near the end, but as I finished the book, I was left feeling satisfied with the ending. I really liked the parts of the book, that seemed like a narration, when it was telling what was happening with Christopher showing what was happening when he was away from Emma, and what he was thinking, feeling, doing. I would have loved if it told more about Christopher and Fredrick’s history. That could make a whole good book on it’s own, I think. Thank you, for an amazing book to read.

Format: Kindle Edition

I will make this short and quick. I have been trying to form my thoughts about the book into words but nothing is coming. I was afraid to read it because Christopher was acting so cold that would have my heart broken if it wasn’t for some tiny point of views from Christopher’s side. The story continues from where the first book ended, with our heroes trying to find the gate. I loved both books for different reasons but the best end is the one on Beguiled. I swear if the author hadn’t given us some hints I would have thrown my ereader at the wall and curl up into a ball and not speak to anyone for a while. I can’t explain it but I had strong feelings about Christopher. I am glad Emma fought and didn’t stay behind accepting everything.

Sweet mother of twists! This was amazing. “Beguiled” is, in my opinion, the best sequel “Gate Deadlock” could ever have. It’s full of action, there’s some angst, some twists, some romance and a little time travel.

*gets weird looks*

What? I never said it is your typical romance novel…

Anyway, “Beguiled” picks up right where “Gate Deadlock” left off: Emma is on her personal mission but the Squad has its own agenda, too. Yeah, not the best of luck. All I’m gonna say -so as to not spoil anything- is that things are a liiittle more complicated, a liiiittle more dangerous and certainly not just about Christopher and Emma anymore. Just read it, and you’ll understand.

Now, off to the gushing part.

Have I mentioned that Emma is one of the most likable female characters out there? She’s down-to-earth, she doesn’t exactly take crap from anyone -Christopher included- she is stubborn and devoted to her “quest” of sorts. I also liked the fact that she wasn’t acting like a damsel in distress throughout the whole book. Okay, there were a few tears and “hate you”s here and there but, in my book, that doesn’t qualify as major girl drama. So, brownie points for that.

So, let’s talk a bit about Christopher.

*takes deep breath* Before I start gushing about how amazing he is, let me just say that I love me some angst in my books. No, I don’t like drama fests nor overly emotional heroines, but I like reading about a couple struggling through their relationship. For me, that’s one of those key points where their relationship can only strengthen or weaken, where this amazing thing we call character growth happens. So, as a reader, I like seeing characters develop along with their relationships. My point being that I really liked Christopher on this one. True, I had some

moments, but overall I loved him.

The plot, was once again amazing, full of twists until the very last page and wonderfully executed. It certainly kept me on my toes without any misplaced action scenes. Plus, there were some really wonderful secondary characters -especially Alex and Mateo- that added to the story.

Recommends it for: lovers of fantasy, time traveling, and well writen female characters
The second part of the Gate Deadlock series starts very nicely! Without the whole need to explain a backstory it is fast paced and keeps you reading, and ready to get answers left by the previous book. I will assume for everyone reading this review that you have read the first book of the series; if not, do it. Our dear heroine decides to take fate on her own hands, gets stubborn, and though admitedly I have wanted to slap her at some points, that just shows how she is a well rounded and evolving character. She is on a mission and she will not back down until she gets answers… and her man back. A plot that keeps thickening until its final resolution( and how nicely handled that was). And honesty this is a universe that coud have easiy been expanded and been written into a trilogy!
I must say that The Gate deadlock and Beguiled stand just fine among other fantasy books, and is a great reading for every lover of adventures!
Many thanks to Urania for provoding a pdf in exchange for an honest review!

Oh, and of course I loved the setting! As I’ve already mentioned, I get this special feeling of bad-ass-ness (?) when I come across books set in Greece, so there’s that too.

My conclusion/advice? You should absolutely read it!

* SPOILER ALERT*

So i was curious to see what would happen next and i was amazed! I loved this book! I couldn’t stop reading because in every page there was a twist in the plot which brought excitement all over again!

The emotions were great!!And it became one of my favorite love stories! I really liked the way Christopher was so mysterious but all for a good cause and how it did not get boring with a simple plot. The narrative for one more time was excellent as were the settings in the story. A new character appears Mateo who is totally likeable although you are fooled at the beginning that he is not with the good guys. The ending was perfect!! And i really liked how Alex was not left alone because i really liked his character. I do love happy endings! All in all i loved it and i would read it again with same excitement!
Excellent work!It’s a must-read!

“An unfortunate twist of fate”. We 18re walking different paths in life. Paths which should never cross”Such an over-whelming experience. A mixture of forbidden love and time-travel’I was given a copy of this book for an honest review and WOW, such a really nice and warm read. A big massive thanks Urania for giving me this opportunity to read such a wonderful book of yours. Enjoyed every moment of it. From the very first page I was totally thrown into another world, I just found it so hard putting it down and I know this memory will stay with me for an extremely long time.He has come back to her because hes on a mission, but what is the mission exactly? Why is he holding back on her? Whose that man who looks like him if they are not related? Why does he want him so much? What really did happen to her father?I really felt as tho I was Emma, and WOW, how much I adored Christopher so much. I was so involved with him, could feel for him entirely..I think I fell in love with this bloke that Emma was forbidden to have and deep down, I knew he loved her also even tho he was trying his hardest to conceal his feelings. I was crying with this, very very emotional. But, in all honesty and quite often I wanted to scream at both Emma and Christopher because of all the love that they were trying to hide from each other.
A big massive thanks once again Urania and I would be honoured n reading more from you.

** A shout-out to my friend, Lydia, for not dropping out, even when I was extremely behind and staying true to her no-spoiling oath. You and your iron will!…**
