4star review on Barnes and Noble

A Compelling Ride Through The Deepest Recesses Of The Human Heart And Soul

Though rife with more than its fair share of love and heartbreak, Gate Deadlock is more than a garden variety romance tale. Skillfully combining various elements of mystery, suspense – and even time travel – author Urania Sarri takes the reader on a compelling ride through the deepest recesses of the human heart and soul. Through impressive storytelling, Sarri invites us to explore what it truly means to be human – particularly challenging our often misguided notions of perfection – as she masterfully portrays the full spectrum of emotion, from the depths of sorrow to the pinnacles of joy. As such, Gate Deadlock is a deeply insightful, thoughtfully crafted tale the effects of which will continue to echo throughout the landscape of your mind long after the final page has been turned. A thoroughly eye-opening read.

When it comes to this book, I’m going to do my “new” type of review. I have tried to figure out how to write this review for the past few days and I think that this is the best way that I can do it.
Things I enjoyed:
I really enjoyed the world that was created. The different worlds that were created were done extremely well.
The characters were written in a way that you could visual idea as to what they look like, how they act. Everything about them in general, their actions and personalities.
The story line of this book was amazing; I really liked the whole idea behind this story.
Things that I didn’t enjoy:
The story seemed drawn out at certain parts. There were some sections that felt like they just dragged on longer than they should have.
Other parts of the book seemed to short, you were left wanted to know more about what was going on, what was happening.
I wish we had a little more insight into Christopher’s past, but I am hoping that there is more to learn in the next book.
All in all, I did enjoy this book and I am looking forward to reading the second book in the series.

Format: Paperback

I loved the way that the author wrote. The writing style is easy to read, and it makes you feel like you are right there in the story. This was a nice love story, with lots of suspense, which I loved. I had a hard time putting the book down, I wanted to keep reading to find out what was going to happen with Christopher and Emma. I found his connection to her father to be heartbreaking, but amazing how Emma still connected with Christopher and feel in love with him.

While there was no happy ending at this end of this book. I really enjoyed the ending because it was done in a way that did not leave you feeling disappointed. It leaves you with thinking of all the possibilities of what can happen next. I have all kinds of things running through my mind, like is he pretending, does he really feel like the ending makes him appear to be feeling?

Format: Paperback

I love Urania’s writing style and found this book very enticing! It’s well written and exactly the type of book I prefer. While there’s numerous other books about time travelling, Urania has managed to make her story completely original.
The romance in the story is sweet and captivating, while the suspense is edgy and tense, and there are moments in the book where you have to keep a tight rein on your emotions. The plotline is brilliantly developed and the way Urania describes the characters and their surroundings, I think, is just excellent.
I found the main character, Emma, very likable, as she’s made out to be a very timid, good-natured and innocent girl, pulled into a very complicated and life-threatening situation. It was easy to keep up with what was going on in the book, even after Christopher, the mysterious guy who claims to be a new tutor and sweeps Emma off her feet, arrives at her summer school in Greece. I think Christopher was the perfect antidote to Emma. She sees him as her “guardian angel” for reasons I will not let slip. I also liked the fact that Emma thought of Christopher as “the perfect man”, when actually he’s just a gorgeous guy with the weight of the world on his shoulders. Though Emma is determined to continue her late father’s campaign, her plans are unexpectedly thrown to a halt when discovering the truth behind her father’s death, and who better to be involved in his murder than the beautiful Christopher himself? Tantalizing, I tell you! Of course, after his true identity is revealed, she still sticks around, which didn’t come as a surprise.
What did surprise me, though, was the ending of the book, as normally you would expect a happy ending where everyone lives happily ever after and the princess gets her prince, but there is no happy ending in this book! I don’t know the reason behind this, though, as I got a bit confused reading the last paragraph. Did Emma die or run? Her actions seemed to be a bit blurry, but I suspect there could be a sequel? If there is, I have to get my hands on it because the story ends with a cliff-hanger and I need to know if, in fact, there will be a happy ending after all. If there isn’t a follow-on, I will be very disappointed because that could only mean one thing …

“Gate Deadlock” is one of the best books I have read in the last few years.
It includes suspense, romance, action and imagination, everything that a great book should include.
The love story of the main characters proves that this powerful feeling can alter everything and everyone.
But can love exist between two people that live in a different universe?
Sarri’s style of writing kept my enthusiasm and anguish in high levels
that I could not find a way to stop reading the book at once.
I cannot wait to read the sequence and find out how this unpredictable story will end!!”Gate Deadlock” is definitely a book that everyone should read!!!

I bought two copies of this book; one for my 17-year-old niece and the other for the thirteen-year-old daughter of a friend. Both young ladies loved it! I read the book as well and thoroughly enjoyed the adventures of the well-delveloped characters. I especially liked being transported into the Greek summer heat and I could almost envisioned myself having a souvlaki along with Emma and Christopher. This is a relaxing read for your summer holidays, regardless of your (chronological)age.

Urania Sarri’s novel, “Gate Deadlock” had me spellbound from its opening words until the end. The novel is a blend of mystery, romance and time travel that pulled me directly into the story. Sarri’s mastery of literary language makes it a joy to read, and her intriguing storyline made it impossible to put down. I felt the passion, the fear, the love. This novel hits on all levels. It grabbed me emotionally and had me intellectually questioning, “What will happen next?” I would highly recommend “Gate Deadlock” to anyone who wants to hear a fresh voice filled with emotion.

Well. This is a hard book to review, because I don’t know where to start…

First of all, while I would normally describe the plot, this time I will just tell you to read the book, because if I reveal anything it will be a major spoiler. I’m just gonna say that it involves time travel.

Come on, seriously, just with the mention of time travel,

My god, the writer’s voice… It was magnificent! There were lots of times I look up some words. Sure, it wasn’t full of them making me want to kill myself (I hate having to look up a word every second sentence), but they were just enough. So, brownie points for that.

Also, the narrative was really nice, the plot -which in my opinion is a breath of fresh air in the genre- was interesting, and very nicely executed. Of course, I loved the setting -I mean, it’s Greece: what’s not to like? Plus, I had this special feeling of bad-ass-ness (is that even a word?) whenever I read about Korinthos and Monemvasia and I was like “Hey, I know that place!”.

*clears throat* Um, yeah, moving on now.

About the characters, I really liked Emma: she came of as a powerful, effective and smart young woman who has been through a lot of pain. What I didn’t like though, was the fact that once she met Christopher The Time Traveler she was instantly depended onto him. I mean, come on! Where is your past self? You know, all bad-ass and stuff?

Christopher… I loved Christopher. He was sweet and all that but in the end I just wanted to slap him! And then I loved him again. It’s weird, really.

I also loved the secondary characters. They weren’t overshadowed by Christopher and Emma, they rather added to the story.

My only issue with the story was that (view spoiler). Just sayin’.

All in all, I reeeeally liked “Gate Deadlock” and I’m definitely picking up “Beguiled” next! I had some minor issues, hence the 4 star rating, but I strongly recommend it!

Yesterday i finished the first book and i am about to start the second.

The story of this book is about a young woman named Emma whose life hasn’t been really smooth with her father’s death when she was still young. She grows up only to face even more problems by falling in love with a time-traveller whose past was dark and his future it seems even darker. This book ends with Emma’s attempts to save him and his soul.

Recommends it for: all the lovers of young adult romance

Ok, so… here we go.

The beggining was very strong and impressive, it got me hooked. Generally the book has a great structure and a great use of vocabulary though at some points it tends to be a bit overdone. But after a bit the plot starts thickening and flowing and you get deep into the story.

About Emma: to be quit honest I was reading at first and she was presented as a strong smart capable woman. What I could not really understand is why is she soooo into him, like, from the first time she sees him she is so enchanted I wanted to slap her at some point. But after that she gets way better and since they actually get together and all you get the hang of it. But she is a very likable and relatable character! Finally! She keeps using her brains even when she is crazy in love!

About Christopher: Handsome mysterious stranger barging in and swooping our girl of her feet…but! He hides secrets and a past she cannot find out… or can she? I hope we find more about him!

Well ok, the dynamics between the two of them were a bit too intense at first, but this is not bad!
Also, might I state one thing! How refreshing it was that the protagonists are not highschoolers!
Also I have to state I have never read a time traveling fiction book, and I must state I liked the way the author handles it alot!

I got really entranced by the story and the mystery and I wanted answers dammit!! Which… I did not really get, but I guess that is why there is a second book! And I am set on starting it in 3-2-1!
After all this, i must say, good job miss Ourania Sarri, I cannot wait to see what the future holds for our heroes, and for you too!(lame pun I know, just roll with it people!)
Thanks to the author for providing a pdf copy of this book!

What i really liked in this book it was the great concept of story and also the excellent use of the language which is sometimes difficult to achieve. What i did love was the romance, the love story between Emma and Christopher (the time traveller)and this is quite rare because most romance novels have cheap love stories focusing on the wrong side. But here we have a quality love story focusing on the couple’s feelings and their relationship together. What’s more the secondary characters were likeable and not burried in the shadows by the protagonists.
Being a Greek i loved the settings and the writer has chosen the right and most beautiful places.

On the other hand there were some points where you could easily guess the next step and i think that the involvement of another man in Emma’s life kinda diminishes her purpose of saving her love of her life. Though the narrative is excellent sometimes some of her thoughts went on and on which throwed you out of the story for a while.

All in all i very much liked the book and i can’t wait to read the second one!!
